SSS: May 13th #sixsunday

12 May

Well, Sixers, I’d like to take a moment to wish my mom a Happy Mother’s Day!  Also, today marks the final Sunday before my 28th birthday.  In light of that glorious day—and the impending release of the eBook copy of my debut novel, The Mirrors at Barnard Hall—I thought I’d change it up this week and post from what will likely be my next book: Flight Risk.  This is a tale of second chances that takes place in Nashville, TN.  The excerpt below describes Evelyn Ryan’s first night in Music City.

Thanks for stopping by!

The door vibrated with an invisible beat, drawing me inside like a siren’s song.  The condensed interior was murky; there was just enough light for me to see where I was going without plowing anyone over.  This place was different from the hole-in-the-wall establishments from back home.  No one bothered to look up from their drinks as I meandered through the mass of bodies blocking my way to the bar.  In tourist destinations like this one it was nothing out of the ordinary for a stranger to show up for liquid relief at the end of the day.  This was a city full of imports just like me, all of us attempting to make our way in the Music City.

This has a nice rhythm to it. As always, your ending leaves me wanting to learn more about your protagonist. I love your word choices, for they enhance & compliment the story.

I like “a city full of imports” — the observation and the music allusion (deliberate or no). 🙂

Congrats on the upcoming birthday and the impending book release. 🙂 And I love your description here: the vibrating door, the murky interior. Very nice six. (I miss my BFFs from the previous weeks though. LOL)

That’s awesome to hear! I know what the scenes “look like” but sometimes it’s hard to determine whether or not that’s conveyed.

That takes me back to my boozing days in pubs where you couldn’t see across the room for cigarette smoke! 🙂 Good thing times have changed. Nice 6.
